Creating Attractive Foyers with Polished Concrete
If you are looking to create a grand entrance in your foyer or front hall, polished concrete floors can create a dramatic and eye catching feel.
You can use a polished marble look to complement the stunning sparkle of a crystal chandelier. Place a round table at the foot of the stairs atop a stunning Persian rug if space allows, or set a high gloss dark wood table with a prominent high gloss black framed mirror on an entry wall. Large artwork in classic black or gold frames enhances the sense of opulence.
Use a rustic wash on polished concrete in warm browns to complement the raw wood of your staircase. Add stonewalls for drama and texture. Look to cast iron chandeliers and wall sconces or bronze and even wood for interesting lighting. Raw hewn wool area rugs add a cosy feeling and lighter wood occasional tables with carved shaded lamps offer a welcoming light when you come home late. Add soft cushions in warm reds, oranges and browns to an old cedar or oak chest for storage and a place to sit while getting on boots and shoes.
Opt for high gloss solid colours from a variety of colours to create a contemporary feel to your entryway. You can also create a tile pattern in black and white for a whimsical yet elegant look. High gloss black tables with simple framed mirrors and apothecary lights add sparkle. Simple geometric area rugs help ground larger foyers. Offer simplistic seating such as Louis chairs or a black or white leather bench with metal legs.
Opt for a highly polished natural concrete that can be softened with an edgy shag area rug. Use soft overhead recessed light if the area allows, or modern, low hanging chandeliers. Wall sconces work well on either side of black and white illustrations, or create a small gallery of black and white photos with crisp white matting and wide black frames. Mute grey walls with crisp white crown moulding and baseboards complete the look.
